Mon Nhistwayr- My Story

Neeya/Me

Born in Moosomin, SK in 1980, Tresley spent her early years in Rocanville, SK, and on family farms near Rocanville, SK and McAuley, MB. Her family moved to BC in the late 1980s. Tresley always knew that she wanted to return home to the prairies and her family here. After the birth of their first daughter Tresley and her husband Derek relocated from New Westminster, BC to Regina, SK in 2010. Over the past 15 years Tresley and Derek added two more children to their family, and Tresley completed her Bachelor of Education, through SUNTEP. She is in her 6th year of teaching with Regina Public Schools. In 2022 Tresley returned to the University of Regina and began her graduate studies, pursuing a Masters of Education, with her research focus on Michif Language Revitalization. Her goal is to become a Michif speaker, reclaiming her grandmother's language for her family and community.

About the Bouvier's.

The Bouvier family loves being outside, walking their dog, hunting, gathering, fishing, and camping. They are an active family with three children. Both Tresley and Derek coach, whether in soccer or hockey, depending on the season. Both Tresley and Derek are Métis /Michif so it's important that their children have a strong sense of identity and pride in who they are. Tresley and Derek will celebrate 18 years of marriage this year.

As shared above Tresley's family is from Rocanville, and Ste Marthe before that, leading back to the Red River. Derek's family is from Boggy Creek/San Clara, MB. They also have roots in the Red River.

Community service is a family value for Tresley and Derek. Derek's Dad, Ephram Bouvier, dedicated over twenty years to serving the Métis Nation in the Calgary area as a Regional President with Métis Nation Alberta. Derek and his siblings became involved at a young age with the community. Tresley's Uncle Paul was an amazing man, though blind he earned his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Regina. He spent years out in the valley, working at Ka-Pa-Chee, as well as years volunteering with the Gabriel Dumont Institute, and on the board of the Rocanville Metis local after he returned home. Tresley's Papa, Chico Tourond served as the Métis Local President in Rocanville, and became a passionate volunteer with the AA community in his sobriety.
