Kaykway ka wee totamawn por noet piyee (what I want to do for our region -  "The Vision")

As Tresley has visited with Métis citizens across our region she has heard a consistent message.

  • Our citizens want a consistently active region.

  • Our citizens want accountability and transparency.

  • Our citizens want to belong.

  • Our region is rich with cultural knowledge holders, storytellers, artists, and professionals.

  • We are proud and hard-working!

Our Locals
Our Communities

Our Locals/Our Communities

We have so many citizens in our region who want to be involved. Who want to share their skills, talent and teachings, and citizens who want to learn and expand their knowledge. We need a change-maker who is interested in accountability and honesty. We need a leader who is ready to listen, engage in respectful dialogue and discussions, and then get to work for our region. Tresley is ready to do that.

  • Many of our locals require assistance getting their not-for-profit standing restored, having meetings and holding elections to help them return to accountable,  community-led organizations that are part of a healthy governance structure. Our communities and citizens are the voice and heart of our Nation.

  • We need citizen engagement to understand what the community need is for local/community representation. The Metis Nation - SK (MN-S) already has governance processes in place, through the Métis Nation Legislative Assembly (MNLA) to bring these communities/locals to the table, ensuring adequate and rightful representative voices for Métis Nation Western Region III.

Cultural Development/Programming

Western Region III is home to many talented Métis /Michif artisans, to beaders, dancers, musicians, artists, singers, to storytellers and Old Ones with knowledge about Métis ways of living and knowing, about our food, gardening, canning and cooking, and those who have land-based teachings to share. We also have Michif language speakers and learners. By involving community, having open calls, expressions of interest and job postings, we can give all Métis citizens an opportunity to fill these rolls and share their talents. There are dollars available directly through MN-S and through many other local, provincial and national organizations and levels of government that, when accessed, will allow us to build a region thriving with activities. Tresley is experienced in proposal writing and has brought thousands of additional dollars to her school for land-based learning and other curricular learning in the past five years.

We can also target other funds to support our families with sports programming and events, or other areas of need, building on the successful framework that MN-S has already established in ministries and programs like Early Learning and Child Care.

Alongside Métis Nation - Saskatchewan

If you aren't signed up for Métis Nation - Saskatchewan (MN-S) newsletters and following along on social media you may not know how many successes MN-S has celebrated in the past few years. As your elected representative Tresley will continue to champion this growth, building on all of these current successes, with the aspiration of creating sustainability through economic development, and the move toward self-government. Some of these highlights include:

  • Growth in our Citizenship Registry, from around 3,000 citizens to over 30,000

  • Development of multiple programs to support families with children, including:

    • Let’s Play (Maatawaytaak) reimbursement Program

    • Lii Bufloo Cultural Packages Program

    • Early Learning and Child Care Subsidy Program

    • The Little Buffalo Reader Program, plus more!

  • Targeted health programming, like the Medical Travel Assistance Program, Bereavement Support, Métis Patient Advocates, and the Wellness Through Our Lands Program.

  • Land-based programming, like the reintroduction of lee bufloo (bison/buffalo) at Back to Batoche, and the development of the Metis Guardians program.

  • Housing Programs like the First-Time Home Buyers Program and the Emergency Repair Programs.

  • Infrastructure development, breaking ground on the first two Ma Fammii Centres of Excellence (community hub).

  • And much more...

While we experience this growth it is also important for us to focus on ensuring we have a strong framework through our HR and organizational policies for staff, explicit guidelines and regulations for our elected officials, and constitutional reform that ensures consistency across all of those checks and balances. Our Nation needs to be prepared to grow as a government and administration alongside all of our programs and services. While I have seen this work happening, we are progressing and not there yet. We need elected leaders who are committed to the vision and positive working relationships to continue to move forward!
